Barred Leaf Frog
2007
Etch A Sketch
5" x 7"
This little frog was drawn as a graduation/birthday present for my younger sister. She has always been obsessed with these slimy amphibians, so I figured I would surprise her with this piece.

Though it is not as detailed as some of my other etchings, it has been one of my most painstaking works to date. It consists mostly of long, thin lines, which are particularly difficult to produce with the two small white knobs. The temptation to get frustrated and start drawing quickly is almost painful to avoid, but is absolutely necessary in order to avoid creating jagged lines. Besides being mind-racking, tracing over these lines time and time again has been great practice in patience and has done wonders for me as far as being able to keep a slow, steady hand.
